Easily one of the best beginner locations, the Malmo launch on Lake Mille Lacs is one of the most popular places in Minnesota for kiteboarding. There is a huge sheltered grassy rigging area and shallow sandy water for at least 100 yards out from shore. If the wind is good, there will almost always be friendly riders at Malmo that you can ask for help. Every summer an informal gathering of the kite community is held at Malmo, so keep your calendar open for late July! Please give beginners plenty of space and give boaters the right of way since there is a boat launch nearby.

Support Local

Need a place to replendish your fluids or stuff your face after a perfect kiting session? We would love if you could support local businesses around the kiteboard launches we frequent. Almost all of our kiteboarding locations in Minnesota are free, so let’s give back to the communities that maintain them! Plus, the locals love seeing some weirdos show up with wind-blown hair.
