Mille Lacs Lake is the best place in Minnesota for beginner kiteboarders. There is not much that compares to the sandy shallows and smooth winds that the large lake provides. When the wind has any kind of south in it, Reddy Creek is the place to be. The shallows stretch out for at least half a mile and vary in depth. Be careful doing large jumps anywhere close to shore! To get to the launch area there is a small pull-off from Highway 18 and then a small sand road leading down to several different launch locations. If there are swimmers present, please try to stay as far east as possible. When the wind gets strong, watch for good rolling waves slightly west of the creek outlet!

Support Local
Need a place to replendish your fluids or stuff your face after a perfect kiting session? We would love if you could support local businesses around the kiteboard launches we frequent. Almost all of our kiteboarding locations in Minnesota are free, so let’s give back to the communities that maintain them! Plus, the locals love seeing some weirdos show up with wind-blown hair.
