When a big northwest wind hits the Lake Mille Lacs area, advanced kiters always flock to Father Hennepin State Park. The location is known for large rolling waves that are a joy with a surfboard. Please be aware, this is definitely an ADVANCED ONLY location due to very little shallow water and minimal room for launching errors. Also, this location should be avoided during hot summer days, but can be completely void of swimmers during strong northwest wind days. You will need a state park pass or you have the option to pay a daily park fee for entrance. If you are bringing family members, the park itself is beautiful with clean campgrounds. Bring a friend, you are going to need their help launching and landing!

Support Local
Need a place to replendish your fluids or stuff your face after a perfect kiting session? We would love if you could support local businesses around the kiteboard launches we frequent. Almost all of our kiteboarding locations in Minnesota are free, so let’s give back to the communities that maintain them! Plus, the locals love seeing some weirdos show up with wind-blown hair.
