White Bear Lake is a good option for kiters living on the east side of the Twin Cities. The launch at Ramsey County Beach (aka White Bear Lake County Beach) is the most common kiteboard location on the lake. Kiteboarders typically park at the south end of the parking lot where there is large grassy area for rigging kites. Although the rigging area is wonderful, the entrance to the water is not recommended for beginners. There is very little sand to launch from and the water drops off quite quickly if you can’t water start on the first try. Also, please make sure you can stay upwind because there is often boaters and beachgoers just barely downwind. If you are an advanced rider, be sure to venture out past the islands where the waves are often much larger!

Support Local

Need a place to replendish your fluids or stuff your face after a perfect kiting session? We would love if you could support local businesses around the kiteboard launches we frequent. Almost all of our kiteboarding locations in Minnesota are free, so let’s give back to the communities that maintain them! Plus, the locals love seeing some weirdos show up with wind-blown hair.
